Figures as cited in this article.

Whatever industry you're in, you're probably here to solve one of a handful of jobs. Let's look at what those messages look like, and what RCS adds over plain SMS.

How to read the examples. The message mock-ups on this page (the clinic, the store, the bank) are illustrative, written for this guide, not screenshots of live sends. Where a number comes from a real brand it is named, linked and labelled with its market, and most published RCS results so far come from outside the US, so treat them as signals rather than a forecast for a US program. The most reliable number is your own: an RCS-first send falls back to SMS for phones without RCS, so every campaign compares the two formats on your own list.

The core RCS use cases (with examples)

These are the highest-impact things businesses send over RCS. Each is branded, interactive, and measurable.

Appointment reminders

[Clinic logo · Verified] Your cleaning is tomorrow at 2 PM with Dr. Patel. [Confirm] [Reschedule] [Call us]

One-tap confirmation replaces "reply C to confirm" and the phone tag that follows a missed reply. Whether it lowers your no-show rate is worth measuring against your current reminders. Fits healthcare, salons, auto service, home services and professional services. Full playbook →

Abandoned cart recovery

[Store logo · Verified] Still thinking about the Tree Runners? 20% off for 24 hours. [product image] [Complete checkout] [Save for later]

The actual product in a rich card with a one-tap return to checkout, where a plain SMS can only send a link. Full playbook →

Fraud alerts & 2FA

[Bank logo · Verified] We blocked a $487 charge on your card ending in 4421. Was this you? [Yes] [No, freeze card]

Verified branding shows the alert comes from the bank's approved sender, which a spoofed number cannot imitate. That is a narrower promise than "this alert is safe": it authenticates who sent the message, not every request in it, so the alert should still never ask for a PIN or password. Full playbook →

Order & delivery updates

[Store logo · Verified] Out for delivery, arriving today 2 to 4 PM. [Track] [Reschedule] [Reach support]

Branded status with one-tap tracking, meant to answer "where's my order?" before the customer has to ask support. Full playbook →

Loyalty & rewards

[Brand logo · Verified] You've earned a free drink, Sarah [Redeem now] [See all rewards]

Tap-to-redeem offers, built to bring customers back. Full playbook →

Where to go next: the workflow and the industry pages

This page is the overview. Each job has a use-case page that shows how the workflow runs (triggers, buttons, fallback copy, what to measure), and each industry page covers the buyer problem in that market.

Appointment reminders Appointment reminders Healthcare, home services, automotive, fitness
Cart recovery Abandoned cart recovery Retail and e-commerce
Order and delivery updates Order and delivery updates Retail and e-commerce, logistics and delivery, restaurants

RCS examples by industry

The same use cases apply differently across verticals. Here's how RCS shows up industry by industry.

Retail & e-commerce

Retail is where RCS shines brightest, it's a visual, transactional channel built for exactly what retailers do.

  • Product launches & drops, rich carousels customers browse and buy in-thread
  • Abandoned cart recovery, the item they left, with one-tap checkout
  • Promotions, branded, time-boxed offers with a direct path to purchase
  • Order & shipping updates, branded tracking that deflects support tickets

Most published retail results come from outside the US. The US case on our retail page is Dooney & Bourke, whose 2024 holiday RCS campaign earned more than double the revenue per send of its SMS and MMS messages, as its marketing platform Listrak reported it.

Healthcare

For healthcare, RCS is about reducing no-shows and building patient trust, with careful attention to consent and appropriate content.

  • Appointment reminders, confirmable in one tap, aimed at no-shows (a 2018 systematic review put the average no-show rate at 23%)
  • Pre-visit instructions, what to bring, where to go, forms to complete
  • Billing & admin notifications, branded, trusted account messages
  • Preventive care nudges, screenings and follow-ups

Financial services & fintech

In finance, RCS's verified sender is the whole point, it's the difference between an alert customers trust and one they suspect is phishing.

  • Fraud alerts, verified, with one-tap verify or freeze
  • 2FA & login verification, branded codes customers know are genuinely yours
  • Payment confirmations, trusted transaction receipts
  • Account notifications, statements, changes, and alerts

In Sinch's 2025 survey of more than 1,600 business leaders, financial services led adoption, with 49% already using RCS and another 45% planning to implement or expand it within a year. Financial services page → · Fraud alerts playbook →

Why these examples work: what RCS adds

Across every industry and use case, RCS improves the same three things over plain SMS:

Trust, the verified sender (your name, logo, checkmark) turns "who is this number?" into "this is my bank / my pharmacy / my store." Critical for anything sensitive, and a real anti-fraud advantage.

Action, one-tap buttons replace "reply Y" and typed links. Confirm, checkout, track, redeem, done in a tap. Fewer steps between reading and doing is the main reason rich messages are expected to convert better.

Proof, read receipts and tap-level tracking show what each message earned, so you can measure and improve. RCS click-through is commonly cited at 15 to 30%, against low single digits for SMS.

And because RCS falls back to SMS automatically, you get all of this on supported devices while phones without RCS still receive a plain-text version.

(Engagement figures vary by source and message quality, the SimplyRCS analytics let you measure your own RCS-vs-SMS lift.)

How to get started with RCS for your industry

You don't need a different tool per use case or industry. The path is the same:

  1. Get your brand verified, a provider like SimplyRCS handles carrier approval for you
  2. Pick your highest-value use case, start with the one tied to your clearest revenue or cost moment
  3. Build it, describe it and AI assembles the flow, or start from a template
  4. Send with automatic SMS fallback, rich where supported, plain text everywhere else
  5. Measure and expand, prove the lift, then add more use cases

Frequently asked questions

What can businesses use RCS for?

Businesses use RCS for any messaging job that benefits from branding, visuals, interactivity, or trust: appointment reminders, abandoned-cart recovery, fraud alerts and 2FA, order and delivery updates, loyalty and rewards, product launches, and two-way customer support. Each is a verified, branded, one-tap experience that falls back to SMS where RCS isn't supported.

What are some examples of RCS messages?

Examples include a confirmable appointment reminder with Confirm/Reschedule buttons, an abandoned-cart message showing the product with a Checkout button, a fraud alert with Yes/Freeze-card options, an order update with a Track button, and a loyalty reward with a one-tap Redeem. All carry your verified brand, name, logo, and checkmark.

Which industries benefit most from RCS?

Retail and e-commerce (visual, transactional messaging), financial services (verified fraud alerts and 2FA), healthcare (confirmable appointment reminders), restaurants and hospitality (reservations and loyalty), automotive (service reminders), and fitness (class reminders and retention) all see strong fit. Any business that messages customers and values trust, richness, or interactivity benefits.

Do I need different tools for different RCS use cases?

No. A single platform like SimplyRCS runs every use case, build with AI or templates, send as a broadcast or trigger from your systems, manage replies in one inbox, and measure everything in one dashboard. There's no per-use-case product or fee.

Is RCS good for my specific industry?

If your business sends customer messages that would benefit from your brand appearing, from showing a product or image, from letting customers tap to act, or from customers trusting the message is really from you, then RCS fits. That covers most consumer-facing industries. The best test is to look at the use cases above and see which match your customer moments.

How do I start using RCS for my business?

Get your brand verified (a provider that handles carrier approval speeds this up), pick your highest-value use case, build the message with AI or a template, and send with automatic SMS fallback so phones without RCS still get the message. Then measure the results and expand. A free tool like the RCS Readiness Score shows what you need to launch.
